Directed by Jean L. James, the singers from the middle school will perform a collection called “Negro Spirituals and Songs Inspired by the Civil Rights Movement,” as introduced by Acting Administrator of the Courts Judge Glenn A. Grant.
“The talented youth of the Cicely Tyson School will deliver a performance that promises to be both educational and enjoyable,” Grant said.
“The unique interdependence of African American history and music provides a terrific opportunity to learn about two important eras in African American history through a musical performance that all will find uplifting and inspirational.”
Additional information about musical genres related to African American history will be presented by the judiciary staff which include the history and development of negro spirituals, music of the civil rights movement, and the influence of the African American experience on the development of jazz.
The lunchtime event is free to all, and it will be held in the lobby of the justice complex located at 25 Market Street, Trenton, Tuesday at 12:30 p.m.
