(press release distribution) Kyoto Kimono, an online vintage Japanese garment shop based in upstate New York, together with the Smithsonian’s Arthur M. Sackler shop, will present a trunk show July 2-4 featuring over 200 authentic, vintage kimono robes, haori jackets, and obi sashes collected from auction houses and temple markets in Kyoto, Japan.
Kyoto Kimono owner Nancy McDonough, who lived in Kyoto for several years, will be on hand to discuss the garments, textile techniques, and the interplay between kimono and Japanese culture. McDonough began collecting vintage kimono robes in the early 90s in Kyoto, Japan and Kyoto Kimono was then born out of her desire to tell their story. Her unique collection of vintage Japanese garments ranges in date from 1930-70. In addition, wearable accessories, scarves, purses, and totes made from recycled vintage garments are offered in her Japanique Boutique collection. To learn more, visit http://www.kyotokimono.com.
The trunk show runs Saturday, July 2 and Sunday, July 3, 11a.m.-5 p.m., and Monday, July 4, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Sackler Gallery shop.
