Everyone loves the rustic charm and warmth of a custom log home or cottage but until now, they were only affordable to those with a substantial budget. Now there is a new alternative for eco-minded folks on a budget. Vanisle EcoLog Homes Inc. has introduced its new square log home kits to BC allowing log home lovers to build their dream home or cottage for about the same price as regular stick frame construction.
“The secret of EcoLog homes lies in their simplicity and roots in pioneer construction techniques,” says Hermann Thoene, Owner of Vanilse EcoLog Homes, “Our unique log home kits made with square timbers allow for efficient production and construction and avoid many challenges faced by building with round logs.” The resulting product is a traditional home, unpretentious and rustic, yet full of charm and appeal.
EcoLog log home kits combine traditional construction and design techniques with modern applications, producing a log home that will stand the test of time. EcoLog buildings differ from other log homes or timber frame structures in several ways:
• The massive walls are constructed from 8″ square timbers, not round logsSquare timbers are much easier to produce and work with… this makes EcoLog log home kits very affordable
• The “EcoLog Look” is derived from the combination of the alternating 2″ insulation and 8″ timbers, giving EcoLog buildings a very unique and attractive, natural appearance
• EcoLog log home kits for western Canada are built from sustainably harvested Hemlock trees from Vancouver Island
Hemlock is an often overlooked and underutilized building material. Hemlock has been used for centuries in barn construction throughout much of Eastern Canada. Farmers liked it because of its unusual strength and good resistance to decay and insect attacks. Many of the old barns still standing today were built with this wood species. “The price of Hemlock is lower than that of many other species, an advantage which EcoLog Homes can pass on to their customers by offering very affordable log home kits,” explains Thoene.
EcoLog log home kits have a very successful track record. They were developed in 1998 by EcoLog Building Concepts, a Canadian company located in the Haliburton Highlands of Ontario. Since then more then 100 EcoLog log home kits have been built.
Customers in western Canada can now purchase EcoLog log home kits from Vanisle EcoLog Homes in Victoria BC.
